RULES & REGULATIONS
Mini: 4-7 years
Petite: 8-9 years
Junior: 10 years
PreTeen: 11-12 years
Teen: 13 years
Senior: 14-18 years
Pointe: Routine consisting of ballet/pointe technique. Pointe shoes must be worn.
Character: Routine portrays a character that is easily recognizable.
Clog: Routine using clogging technique. Clogging shoes must be worn.
Contemporary: A routine that includes ballet, jazz and modern techniques in the current contemporary style.
Hip Hop: Routine consisting of hip hop tecnhiques - popping, breaking, street, jazz funk, etc.
Jazz: Routine using traditional jazz movements and technique
Lyrical: Routines using ballet and jazz techniques to create fluid dynamic emotion and expressive movements.
Open: Routine consisting of any categories. ACRO routines should be placed here. Routines with more than 25% tumbling/tricks need to be in the OPEN cateogry.
Production: Traditionally a themed routine with 15+ dancers. 8:00 minutes allowed.
Tap: Routine consisting of tap technique. Tap shoes must be worn, A Cappella is accepted.
BOLD Productions reserves the right to combine/divide levels and move routines after they have performed at the judge's discretion.
Categories with more than 6 entries will be split.
Category splits will be done by age if possible.
BOLD will try to split performers from the same studio.
Duo/Trio: 2-3 performers
Quads: 4 performers that compete in the individual competition ($50/dancer)
Group: 4+ performers
Final schedule will be emailed to studio directors and independent performers at least 7 days prior to the event using the email provided at registration.
Studios and Independent performers can also access their performance times using the registration site.
Programs of the entire event will be available for $5.
At the judge's discretion:
Routines that are blatantly miss-leveled will be moved and adjudicated only.
Routines may be moved to better suit the levels attendig the competition without deduction.
Routines with extensive tumbling/tricks will be moved to Open Category.

*Extra time may be purchased at $25 per 30 seconds
Props must be set up and taken down in the time alloted.
2 points will be deducted for every 5 seconds over alloted time.
Props must be set up and removed within the alloted performance time.
Props must not damage the stage or leave residue of any kind.
Routines are required to clean up after their routine in the allotted time. Any delay will result in a 2 pt deduction for every 5 seconds required for clean up.
Props must be secured adequately for the performers safety. BOLD Productions is not liable for injuries/death resulting in the use of props.
It is strongly recommended that you bring a back up copy of all music, even if it has been uploaded to the registration site.
Music must be free of profanity and strong adult content. BOLD Dance Competition is a family-friendly competition, music should be age appropriate for the performers and spectators. Deductions will occur at the judge's discretion.
Solo/Duet/Trio:
- Each participant/entry will be awarded a placement trophy (Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum).
- 1st Place awarded to category winner.
- High Point awarded to Age/Level
- 1 Overall in each ceremony.
Teams:
- 1st Place awarded to each category
- High Point for each age/level
- 1 Overall per ceremony.
Overall and High Point winners will not be eligible for 1st place.
BOLD Awards:
The BOLD Judge's Choice award is given at the discretion of each judge for outstanding routines. This may include Technique, Costume, Best Of, Creativity, Use of Prop, etc.
Scoring:
Scoring will be done electronically. Score sheets and audio/video critiques will be available 48-72 hours after the competition.
Achievement Awards (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) will be awarded.

Judges will score each routine on:
- Choreography – 30
- How did the choreographer do? Artistry, costume, props, musicality, etc.
- Technique - 30
- How well did the dancers execute their technical level? Alignment, feet, extension, placement, control, etc.
- Execution- 30
- How well did the dancers execute the choreography? Formations, timing, presentation, emotion, etc.
Merit – 10
The technical score will be based on the level/style of each routine.
Ties will be broken with the technical score. If a tie persists, it will be broken at Judges Discretion.
Judges:
BOLD judges are professional studio directors, instructors and performing dance professionals. They are highly qualified and trained to objectively critique each style and level.
Judges will only be able to view the style/level/age/title of each dance. They will not be privy to studio, choreographer or dancer names.
Enter and exit theater between routines only.
Silence your cell phone.
No flash photography.
Recording routines from other studios/performers is strictly forbidden and you will be removed from the premises.
Spectators that are disrespectful or become distracting to the judges will be asked to leave.
Please adhere to additional venue guidelines.

Independent entries will be assesed a $20 processing fee per account.
Entries must be paid in full before they will be processed for scheduling.
Entries are processed on a FCFS basis and will be limited to the amount of performance time available.
All entries must include the names and birthday of all performers.
The name of the routine MAY NOT be the name of the studio.
Studios that cancel before 30 days prior to the event will be given a 75% refund in the form of BOLD credit.
Cancellations within 30 days of the event will be considered a "scratch" and will not receive a refund.
Special considerations will be given for injuries, family emergencies and COVID quarantines.

Reserved parking is for Studio Directors only.
Please obey all parking and traffic signs.
BOLD Productions is not liable for damage/theft of vehicles and posessions, park at your own risk.
Additional venue guidelines may be required.
All participant and spectators will be required to follow the current guidelines (will be updated on the events page) or they will be asked to leave without compensation.
If a venue cancels, BOLD will use a secondary location. If a second location cannot be secured, BOLD will be rescheduled.
Refunds for cancelled events will be given as a 100% credit towards any future event.
